How to celebrate a landmark birthday?

I’ve had several ideas on how to celebrate my 60th birthday. It seems like it could be considered one of the “big” ones.

Planning started years ago on my last trip to Paris, with a group of friends. Promises were made to return for some landmark birthdays and give them their proper recognition. Two of us were turning 60 and one 55. Landmarks for all of us. Those plans are non-existent, as some of those friendships have been abandoned, much like the plan itself.

Next, I had this idea to take a group of friends to NYC to enjoy tea on a bus. Yes, dear reader, there is a tour company that offers tea on a beautifully decorated bus that drives around the NYC. Again, those plans fell short when scheduling became too overwhelming to get a date that everyone could agree on. Too many conflicting obligations and plans. I didn’t want to leave anyone out, so that plan packed up and parked.

My final attempt to celebrate was to host a party at the lovely Gambrill Tea House near where I live. With much determination I tracked down the park ranger who handles the rental only to find out that the Tea Room is closed for the season. Womp. Womp.

Clearly the universe was sending me a message.

So, here I am in Paris. I spent the morning with my wonderful husband, enjoying my favorite piece of art at the Louvre. I’m going to find the perfect piece of cake and I have a bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge. There’s surely a bookstore within a block of my AirBnb and I’ll top off the day viewing the Eiffel tower sparkling and remember all the wonderful things and true friends I am thankful for.

These 60 years have been filled with some amazing experiences–some good, some not so much, but they are mine and I am just fine with that.

Cheers!
